Full color for a full life

  • Natural-looking, illuminating color to flatter your skin tone
  • Gentle formula with no ammonia or peroxide
  • Subtle gray coverage from one-step application
  • Revitalizing conditioner!
  • Color Application

DO SKIN ALLERGY TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE EACH APPLICATION EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED COLORING PRODUCTS

    Step 1. Prepare your color

    • Put on gloves to color and protect your clothing with an old towel.
    • Shake haircolor well.

    Step 2. Start Coloring

    • Twist applicator to open. Squeeze haircolor out of bottle and apply throughout dry hair. Start at the temples or hairline, or wherever hair is most gray. Fully saturate hair.
    • Do not rub color into scalp.
    • If any haircolor gets on skin or household surface, wipe it off with a damp paper towel.

Tip: When covering gray, start where you have the most gray. Then apply to the rest of hair.

    Step 3. Color Enhancing Cap

    • For best results, use the plastic Color Enhancing Cap. The cap creates a gentle heating action which helps color to cover gray thoroughly.
    • Pile color-saturated hair loosely on top of head. Cover hair with cap. Gather excess plastic in front of head and secure with a plastic clip. If any haircolor gets on skin or household surface wipe it off with a damp paper towel. You can remove the gloves, but put them back on for Step 5.

    Step 4. Time It

    • Leave color on hair for your pre-determined Strand Test time or for 20 minutes. Permed or straightened hair may take 15 minutes.
    • After coloring, discard any unused product. Results may differ if product is stored and reused.

Tip: For resistant gray, it may be necessary to leave color on for up to 45 minutes. Check color after 20 minutes.

    Step 5. Rinse & Condition

    • Put plastic gloves back on.
    • Add a small amount of warm water to your hair and work into a lather by gently massaging.
    • Rinse hair thoroughly until water runs clear.
    • Gently work the entire pack of Revitalizing Conditioner into your hair. Leave in for 2 minutes.
    • Rinse out thoroughly.

Tip: Wait 24 hours before shampooing to prevent color loss.

Get a boost of shimmering color to gently blend away gray and volumize the look of thinning hair.

No Peroxide, No Ammonia. As gentle to your hair as a shampoo.

Illuminating color in only 20 minutes. Easy one-step application.

Gentle Formula Rejuvenates Hair Appearance. Contains Panthenol, Proteins, and Vitamin E. Leaves even thinning hair looking full of volume.

Revitalizing Conditioner restores healthy-looking shine and feel

    What products does Clairol make?

Clairol makes haircolor products. Choose from Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos), Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos), Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) or Highlighting & Blonding to help you become colorwonderful?.

Should individuals with natural, uncolored hair use different haircolor products than those who have previously colored their hair?

It depends on the desired result. If you are coloring your hair for the first time and only want to enhance your natural color, try a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product close to your natural haircolor. If you want to go lighter, you need to select a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) haircolor, then refer to the insert that comes inside your box of Clairol haircolor and follow the instructions for first time application.

Should people who want to cover gray hair use different coloring products than those who don’t need coverage?

Most Clairol haircolor products will blend or cover gray hair to some degree. If you have a small percentage of gray (not very visible), use a Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos) product, such as Loving Care. If you have a higher percentage of gray hair (up to 50%), use a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product such as Natural Instincts, which will blend away gray hair.
On the other hand, if you have a lot of gray and want to cover it completely, use a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) product. If you have 50% or more gray, use Nice ‘n Easy Gray Solution.

How can I test-run a color before committing to coloring my entire head of hair?

Strand test is a simple method for you to test haircolor on a portion of your hair before doing the entire application. (The instructions are in your haircolor box.) It’s an important step because it’s the only way to see exactly how the shade you selected works with your starting haircolor to achieve the resulting color. A strand test will also help you determine the exact timing you’ll need to color your whole head.

Where can I find product instructions?

Product instruction inserts are inside your haircolor box.

    GET READY TO COLOR

    • Use an old towel to protect your clothing and household surfaces.
    • Have a clock handy for timing.
    • Wear the plastic gloves provided for preparation and application of color.
    • Apply to dry hair that is free of styling product build-up. If hair has styling product build-up, shampoo 12-24 hours prior to coloring. DO NOT shampoo immediately before coloring. Your scalp has natural oils that help protect it during coloring.

ALLERGY TEST – 48 HOURS BEFORE YOU COLOR

Just as some people are allergic to foods and medicines, a small number of people may show an allergic reaction to hair colorants. So to help minimize your risk, it is important to perform the skin allergy test 48 hours prior to every application. Don’t color if you’ve had a previous reaction.
You will need a cotton ball or swab.

    1. Put on gloves. Shake bottle. Twist the applicator tip to open the bottle.
    2. Apply small amount of the mixture to inside of elbow.
    3. Leave inside of elbow uncovered and undisturbed for 48 hours.
    4. Examine the test area during the next 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, you are ready to color.

If a rash or redness, burning or itching occurs you may be allergic and you must not use this product.

If during coloring you experience intense stinging or burning and/or a rash, rinse immediately. Do not color your hair again before consulting a doctor or seeking medical advice. If you experience shortness of breath, seek prompt medical attention.

STRAND TEST – 48 HOURS AFTER ALLERGY TEST AND BEFORE YOU COLOR

Do the Strand Test each time you color to determine optimal timing and color results. Perms, relaxers, previous color, and the sun can affect your results and timing.
You will need: scissors, tape, plastic bowl and a clock.

    1. Cut a 1/4 inch wide strand from the darkest or grayest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.
    2. Place strand in bowl. Shake bottle. Put on gloves. Twist the applicator tip to open bottle and point downwards away from face and squeeze out enough haircolor into the bowl to cover the strand.
    3. Start timing. After 15 minutes (10 minutes for permed/relaxed hair), wipe the haircolor from the strand with a paper towel to check the strand. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every few minutes for up to 20 minutes (up to 45 minutes for resistant grays).

Fill in your personal color time below:
My timing for desired color: _______ minutes.

    SPECIAL CAUTIONS

    • Never use product on eyebrows or eyelashes. This could cause eye irritation. If any product gets into the eye, flush immediately with a large amount of water. If irritation occurs, consult a physician or seek medical advice.
    • We recommend removing contact lenses before applying haircolor. If you must wear contact lenses during application and any product gets into your eye, remove the lens first, then flush immediately with a large amount of water. If irritation occurs, consult a physician or seek medical advice.
    • Never use on facial hair or if your scalp is irritated or injured.
    • Do not mix with any other product.
    • Product not intended to be used on children.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

    USEFUL TIPS BEFORE YOU START

Loving Care is formulated to provide gentle gray coverage that does not change natural hair color or leave a root line. It contains no ammonia or peroxide. Loving Care leaves colored hair soft with a brilliant shine.

    • Apply to hair that is free of styling product build-up, however, do not shampoo immediately before coloring.
    • If you have resistant grays:
      • Try applying Loving Care to the gray area first, then to the rest of your hair.
      • Remember to use all the Loving Care and really saturate your hair.
      • Be sure to use the Color Enhancing Cap provided.
    • For longer lasting gray coverage, try Natural Instincts from Clairol.
    • If your hair has recently been permed or relaxed, wait at least 7 days and 1 shampoo before coloring. Be sure to do the Strand Test, since your timing may need to be reduced.
    • If you plan to perm or chemically relax your hair, wait at least 7 days and one shampoo before coloring.
    • If you’ve used a gradual color restorer, henna or metallic dyes, don’t use Loving Care until your hair has grown out and the colored areas have been cut off.
    • If hair is highlighted or lightened, highly lightened from the sun, or if a haircolor remover has been used, DO NOT USE Loving Care, as it may produce off-tone or unwanted results.
    • If you are deciding between two similar shades, choose the lighter shade for a more subtle result.
    • If the shade you used was too dark, shampoo several times to make it lighter. Next time, choose a lighter shade and perform the Strand Test to check the color and determine optimal timing.
    • If the color becomes too dark on the ends of hair, apply Loving Care to new hair growth only (right at the scalp). Leave it there for most of the application time. With 5 minutes left, work the color from the new growth through the rest of hair. When application time is finished, rinse.

    • Natural-looking coverage perfect for up to 50% gray

    How To Use:

    1. STEP 1: Easy Preparation

DO SKIN ALLERGY TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE EACH APPLICATION EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED COLORING PRODUCTS

      1. A. Wet and towel dry hair until damp. Remember, don’t shampoo your hair before you color.
      2. B. Put on the Professional Colorist Gloves provided.
      3. C. Pull up the tab to remove the tip of the Gentle Activating Crème bottle-2 and discard the tab. Unscrew the cap from the Gentle Activating Crème-2.
      4. D. Open the Color-Enhancing Colorant-1 and pour the entire contents into the Gentle Activating Crème-2.
      5. E. With finger over the open tip, point away from face, and shake well until the color is totally blended and the mixture thickens.
      6. F. Apply the color to your damp hair immediately.

ONCE MIXED, NEVER RESEAL OR STORE THE COLOR IN A CLOSED CONTAINER AS IT COULD BURST.

    2. STEP 2: Easy Application

      OPTION A: ALL OVER COLOR
For first time haircolor users and those who have not colored for 3 months.

      1. 1. Apply Color
        • Part your hair into small, even sections using the applicator nozzle. Apply color first to your damp roots and then immediately through the length of your damp hair. Do not rub into scalp.
      2. 2. Time It
        • Now that you have applied the color to your hair, leave it on hair for 10 minutes or the time indicated by your Strand Test.

      Tips from the experts:

      • When covering gray, start where you have the most gray.
      • Don’t worry if the color of the mixture on your hair looks different from your desired color.
      • If any color gets onto your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel.
      • For resistant gray hair, you can leave color on for an additional 10 minutes. Total time should not exceed 20 minutes.
      • For permed or relaxed hair, leave color on for only 8 minutes total.

      OPTION B: ROOT APPLICATION
For users who color every 4-6 weeks.

      1. 1. Apply Color
        • On damp hair apply mixture only to the new hair growth at the roots instead of applying color to your entire head.
        • Save the remainder of the color to use for the rest of your damp hair.
      2. 2. Time It
        • Now that you have applied the mixture to your new hair growth, leave on hair for 5 minutes.
        • Then gently work the remaining color through the rest of your hair (avoid rubbing into the scalp) and leave it on hair for an additional 5 minutes.

      Tips from the experts:

      • For resistant gray hair, you may need to leave color on the root area for an additional 5-10 minutes before working color down for the last 5 minutes. Total time should not exceed 20 minutes.
      • For permed or relaxed hair, leave color on for only 8 minutes total.
    3. STEP 3: Rinse and Condition
      1. 1. Rinse
        • Wearing gloves, add a small amount of warm water to your hair and work into a lather by gently massaging. Rinse hair thoroughly until water runs clear. For best results, wait 24 hours before shampooing.
      2. 2. Condition
        • Next, apply a small amount (about the size of a nickel) of the Once A Week Color Treat™ Color Conditioning Treatment-3 evenly to your hair. For best results leave on for 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Save the remainder for up to 5 more weekly conditioning treatments (See Tip below).

      Tip from the experts:

      • Once a week substitute your regular conditioner for our Once A Week Color Treat™ Color Conditioning Treatment to help maintain your healthy, natural-looking color.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

    • What is brassiness?

Most people have some level of underlying red and/or orange pigments in their hair. When hair is colored*, the red pigments can become exposed more than usual, resulting in what is commonly referred to as “brassiness.” Brassiness can be caused by multiple factors, including when a person chooses a shade that is too warm for their current hair color. The unwanted red and/or orange tones will appear either right after coloring or after color starts to fade.
      *with any permanent haircolor product.

    • Why is Natural Instincts Brass Free unique?

Imagine a color wheel. The warm colors are across from the cool colors, making them complementary because they balance each other out. The same theory applies to hair color. Brassy (or warm) tones in hair can be counteracted by cool tones. Natural Instincts Brass Free contains brass-seeking dyes made up of the cool tones that counteract brassiness, resulting in healthy, natural-looking color and shine.

    • Who should use Brass Free?

Natural Instincts Brass Free is perfect for those looking for rich, naturally stunning blonde or brunette color without unwanted red and orange tones.

    • Is it healthy for hair?

Yes! Natural Instincts has a gentle, no ammonia formula that helps protect hair against dryness during the coloring process. The Natural Instincts formula also contains a unique blend of antioxidants and vitamins C & E. It’s haircolor that actually improves the healthy look of your hair.

    • How is it different from regular Natural Instincts?

Natural Instincts Brass Free still has all the great benefits of the Natural Instincts women know and love, with an added advantage of being specifically designed for brassy starting shades. Brass Free is offered in a range of shades created to achieve rich, naturally stunning hair color without adding unwanted red and orange tones.

    • How long does it last?

Natural Instincts Brass Free is a non-permanent color that lasts through 28 shampoos. The Once-A-Week Color Treat™ Conditioning Treatment, formulated with aloe to nourish hair, helps protect hair against dryness and seals in color resulting in healthier, natural-looking color and shine for up to six weeks.

Mason Pearson Junior Bristle & Nylon Brush Medium Size

    November 12, 2010 by

    • Mason Pearson has established a unique reputation for hairbrushes. The reason for this is partly in the design and partly in the versatility of the brushes. The design consists of unique spired tufts of boar bristle, or nylon, or bristle-and-nylon mixture, set in a pneumatic pad so that every tuft penetrates right through to the scalp. In addition the materials are first-class.
    • Bristle and Nylon tufts: This mixture is a good combination for thick or long hair. It is the ideal brush for anyone just becoming accustomed to brushing his or her hair.
    • Brushing the hair cleans and polishes it and stimulates the scalp all at once. And brushing is a wonderful conditioning treatment as it not only distributes oil along the entire hair shaft but gets rid of any scaly particles as well. This is the way to brush: ideally, bend from the waist. Brush from the scalp to the ends of the hair in long, slow, firm strokes, touching the scalp each time with the bristles of the brush.
    • You’ll find that a Mason Pearson glides more easily and smoothly through the hair, allowing you to lift your hair in wide curves. A Mason Pearson brush is designed so that every individual tuft penetrates right through to the scalp. Too hard a bristle would hack at your hair and scalp, too soft a bristle would slide ineffectively over your head.
    • Brushing is for all hair types. Dry hair: Brushing activates the tiny oil glands at the case of each hair – so that they lubricate each hair shaft just enough for elasticity and bounce and there’s no danger of hair being brittle, dry and difficult to manage. Greasy hair: Brushing helps lift away excess oil from the hair shaft. Dandruff: A Mason Pearson brush reaches every corner of the scalp and makes a thorough job of sweeping away the scales.

    Product Description
A medium size (9″x2¾”) bristle and nylon mixed brush that has 7 rings of stiff bristle and nylon mixed tufts. Recommended for use on normal hair.
